WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 29, 2021) – Today President Biden announced the members of a new White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council to support the implementation of his commitments to end historic environmental racism and injustices that continue to persist today. The president established the Advisory Council in Executive Order 14008 to work with the White House Council of Environmental Quality (CEQ) and the new White House Environmental Interagency Council to make environmental justice a part of the emission, policies and programs of every agency.
The Equitable and Just National Climate Platform co-authors issued the following statement:
“For far too long, communities of color and low-income communities have borne the brunt of the harmful effects of this nation’s toxic pollution concentrated near their homes, schools, and places of work and worship. President Biden’s new White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council, which includes respected environmental justice advocates and experts, will help ensure that the Biden-HarrisAdministration honors the president’s historic commitment to ending environmental racism and securing environmental justice for all communities. We look forward to working closely with the Advisory Council and the White House to identify and implement federal actions to ensure that all communities have clean air and water, a healthy climate, access to pollution-free and affordable energy, and high quality jobs and other economic opportunities.
